Grant Funding FAQ

Common questions about Going PRO and grant-funded training

What is the Going PRO Talent Fund?

The Going PRO Talent Fund is Michigan's flagship employer-led training grant, administered by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity. It reimburses Michigan employers for training that upskills current employees. With a $54.8M budget for FY2026, 88% of awards go to small businesses.

How much funding can I get per employee?

Up to $3,500 per employee for classroom training and up to $1,500 per employee for on-the-job training. There's no cap on the number of employees per application, though awards are competitive. Many employers get 50–100% of their training costs covered.

What types of training qualify for grant funding?

Training must lead to a credential, certificate, or demonstrable skill improvement that benefits the employer. AI literacy, data analytics, business intelligence, dashboard development, and process automation all qualify. The training must have a structured curriculum with clear learning objectives and assessments.

How long does the entire grant process take?

Plan for about 10–12 months from start to reimbursement. That includes 1–2 months for needs assessment and application prep, 2–3 months for review and award notification, 3–4 months for training delivery, and 1–2 months for reimbursement processing. The key constraint is the application window, which opens once or twice per year.

Do I have to pay for training upfront?

Yes — Going PRO is a reimbursement program. You pay for training first, then submit documentation to get reimbursed after training is complete. Reimbursement typically arrives 4–8 weeks after submission. We help you plan for this cash flow so there are no surprises.

What if my application isn't approved?

Historically, about 60–70% of applications receive some level of funding, though awards may be less than the full amount requested. If your application isn't funded, we help you strengthen it for the next cycle. We also explore alternative funding sources like WIOA and federal programs.

Can virtual or hybrid training qualify for the grant?

Yes. Both virtual and hybrid training formats are eligible, as long as the training meets all other requirements — structured curriculum, documented attendance, assessments, and completion certificates. We offer on-site, virtual, and hybrid delivery to fit your team's needs.

What documentation do I need to apply?

You'll need company information (EIN, NAICS code, employee count), a detailed training plan with curriculum and schedule, an employee roster with names, titles, and wages, training provider credentials and cost breakdown, and a narrative connecting the training to business outcomes. We handle all of this for you.

Ready to get your training funded?

The application window opens once or twice a year. Start the process now so you're ready when it opens. A 30-minute consultation is all it takes to get started.
