County Fraud Convergence: Where Multiple Fraud Types Overlap
Analysis of 3,185 US counties across 8 fraud dimensions: opioid prescribing, PPP loans, CFPB complaints, LEIE exclusions, nursing home deficiencies, wage theft, Medicare upcoding, and hospital M-scores. 92 counties show 5 or more elevated indicators.
Mississippi dominates the convergence rankings with 81 of the top counties. 10 counties show 6 or more elevated dimensions, the maximum observed in the dataset. A key methodological note: 7 of the 8 dimensions use state-level data, so states with multiple elevated indicators push all their counties into the top ranks.
Based on public data from CMS, SBA, CFPB, OIG LEIE, BLS, DOL, and SEC filings. This analysis identifies statistical patterns, not accusations of fraud.
